A Sweet & Simple Valentine’s Treat

When you think of gelatin, you probably picture those classic, wobbly desserts from childhood. But did you know that traditional gelatin is made from animal-derived collagen? That means it’s not vegan! Luckily, there’s an easy way to create a plant-based version using agar agar—a natural thickener derived from seaweed.

This Vegan Tart Cherry Gelatin is not only completely plant-based but also gluten-free, refined sugar-free, and packed with flavor from Eden Foods Tart Cherry Juice. It’s a fun and nutritious treat that sets beautifully without the need for animal-based ingredients.

Why Agar Agar Instead of Gelatin?

Normal gelatin is made by boiling animal bones, skin, and connective tissues, which is why it isn’t suitable for a vegan diet. Agar agar, on the other hand, is a seaweed-based alternative that works just as well (if not better!) in creating firm, jiggly desserts. Plus, agar agar is loaded with fiber and contains no animal byproducts—making it a perfect substitute.

Make It in Any Shape You Like!

While we used heart-shaped silicone molds to celebrate Valentine’s Day, you can use any mold or even pour the mixture into a dish and cut it into squares. This recipe is as versatile as it is delicious!
