Add the olive oil to a medium skillet and heat on medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef. Season it with half of the salt and half of the pepper and cook until browned.
Drain the ground beef and add it to the slow cooker with the remaining salt and pepper and the rest of the ingredients. Mix well to combine. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
Serve with your favorite chili toppings such as avocado, shredded cheese, sliced jalapeno, sour cream, and cilantro.
Notes
Feel free to add an additional can of beans and additional spices to suit your taste.
The sugar does not sweeten the chili. It helps balance the acidity of the canned tomatoes.
