In Ireland, my dad would tell you a hot whiskey with a cinnamon stick and a slice of lemon is practically doctor-prescribed.

Germany: Here’s where things get extra fun! The German version, known as Glühwein mit Schuss, is essentially a mulled wine with a shot of something strong (brandy or rum). It’s warm, spiced, and perfect for chilly nights at a Christmas market.

India: In India, a toddy takes on a whole new meaning. Palm toddy is a fermented palm sap drink—more of a rustic countryside brew than a cozy cold remedy. But don’t worry, spiced whiskey-based toddies also make an appearance in the cooler northern regions.

The American South: Down here, a hot toddy is THE go-to cold cure. You’ve got bourbon (naturally), honey, lemon, and sometimes even a little ginger for extra warmth. My father firmly believes that “a good toddy and a good night’s sleep will fix anything.” And honestly? He might not be wrong.

Barenjager Honey Liqueur Hot Toddy

Ingredients 

  • 2 lemon slices
  • 4 oz Barenjager Honey Liqueur
  • 1 ½ cups very hot water
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks, , for garnish

Instructions 

  • In each of two mugs, place a lemon slice.
  • In a separate container, combine the Barenjager Honey Liqueur, hot water, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed. Divide the mixture evenly between the two mugs.
  • Add a cinnamon stick to each mug and serve hot.
