Sweet, Savory, and Better-For-You Comfort Food

If you’re craving takeout-style flavors but want something quick, cozy, and gluten-free, these Sticky Tamari Honey Chicken Bowls absolutely deliver. They’re everything you want in a weeknight dinner — crispy chicken coated in a glossy, sweet-savory sauce, served over a warm base with fresh, crunchy toppings.

Even better, this recipe is incredibly flexible. Whether you’re leaning into comfort with fluffy rice or looking to lighten things up, it’s easy to tailor the bowl to fit your mood and your goals.

Why You’ll Love These Chicken Bowls

First, the flavor is bold yet balanced. The tamari brings deep umami, the honey adds just the right amount of sweetness, and the garlic and ginger create that signature takeout aroma. Meanwhile, the quick air-fryer method keeps the chicken crispy without extra fuss.

Additionally, this is a true 30-minute meal, making it perfect for busy nights when you still want something satisfying and homemade.

What You’ll Need

  • Cooked rice or cauliflower rice
  • Sliced cucumbers
  • Shredded carrots
  • Green onions
  • Sesame seeds

A Lighter Way to Enjoy Takeout Flavors

One of the best things about this recipe is how easily you can adjust the carbs without sacrificing flavor. By using Pork King Good Chicken Puggets, you get a crispy, protein-packed base that’s naturally lower in carbs than traditional breaded chicken.

Then, for an even lighter bowl, swap regular rice for cauliflower rice. Not only does it reduce the overall carb count, but it also lets the sticky tamari honey sauce shine while keeping the dish feeling fresh and balanced.

The Secret to That Perfect Sticky Sauce

The sauce comes together in just minutes, yet it tastes like it simmered all day. As it heats, the honey caramelizes slightly while the tamari deepens the savory notes. Then, a quick cornstarch slurry transforms everything into a glossy coating that clings beautifully to the crispy chicken.

As a result, every bite is coated in that irresistible sweet-and-savory glaze without becoming heavy or overly saucy.

Tips for the Best Bowls

Cook the chicken in a single layer so it stays crispy.
Add the chicken to the sauce just long enough to coat it.
Prep toppings while the chicken cooks to keep the meal quick.
Serve immediately for the best texture contrast.

Perfect for Meal Prep or Busy Weeknights

Because the components store well, these bowls are also great for meal prep. Simply keep the chicken, base, and toppings separate, then assemble when ready to eat. Consequently, you’ll have a quick, flavorful meal ready to go without sacrificing texture.

These Sticky Tamari Honey Chicken Bowls prove that comfort food and convenience can absolutely coexist. They’re sweet, savory, and endlessly customizable — whether you’re going all in on cozy or keeping things lighter with cauliflower rice.

Once you try them, they’ll quickly become a go-to recipe whenever you want bold flavor with minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • Avocado oil spray
  • 1 pound Pork King Good Chicken Puggets
  • 3 tablespoons tamari
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups cooked rice, or cauliflower rice, for serving
  • Sliced cucumbers
  • Shredded carrots
  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Spray the air-fryer with oil spray. Place chicken puggets in a single layer and air-fry at 400°F for 11-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • In a saucepan, whisk together tamari, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Stir together the cornstarch and water, then add to the sauce. Simmer for 1 -2 minutes or until the sauce is thick, glossy, and sticky. Add the chicken tenders and warm through; do not simmer too long to retain the crispiness of the chicken.
  • Serve the sticky chicken over warm rice and finish with cucumbers, carrots, green onions, and sesame seeds
