Healthy & Delicious Detox Smoothie

The best smoothies are those that combine something creamy with something fruity, something sweet, and something tart/tangy. Once you have those components, you can then add powders like collagen or protein. Today, I’ve brought you a smoothie that brings you each of these elements – I’m calling this my Healthy & Delicious Detox Smoothie.

Now, just to be clear, our bodies already handle detoxing on their own thanks to our liver and other organs. (Though some people might have a difficult time naturally detoxing for medical reasons.) This recipe’s purpose is to nourish your body and fuel it with ingredients that might make it easier to naturally detox, rather than it being a recipe that claims to detox your body itself.

The ingredients in this that are helpful are the berries for antioxidants, fresh orange juice for vitamin C, banana for potassium, and apple cider vinegar because, well, it’s apple cider vinegar! By that I mean, ACV reminds me of when the dad on My Big Fat Greek Wedding says “put some Windex on it” as a remedy for just about anything – that’s ACV in the natural remedy world. Apple cider vinegar has been shown to potentially help with controlling blood glucose, lipids, and hypertension, as well as have antimicrobial effects on e-coli and candida, among other (mostly anecdotal or not yet scientifically researched) benefits.

To mellow out the powerful taste of raw apple cider vinegar, I instead used Marukan Organic Apple Cider & Rice Vinegar Drink Blend. It’s organic, raw, unfiltered ACV with the Mother, plus organic rice vinegar and a touch of organic cane sugar.

Cheers to good health!
