Easter is coming! I love Easter – it seems like the official “Welcome to spring” holiday. For me, Easter means colored eggs, pretty little baskets filled with chocolates and jelly beans, kids running around the yard in search of eggs, and ham. My Mom’s Easter Ham Recipe to be exact.

I firmly believe that traditions are what make holidays so special. And what allows us to connect with people we love even when they are no longer with us.

My Mom always made ham the same way; adorned with pineapple rings studded with cloves encircling a bright maraschino cherry. The ham looked like a mosaic – a pretty addition to the holiday table.

Even though my Mom is no longer with us and my husband and children never had the pleasure of meeting her, she is a part of our lives through the tradition of her recipes and what she taught me about entertaining.

Family, tradition, food – that’s what holidays are all about. I hope your holiday is special and filled with love!

Ingredients

  • 7 pound spiral cut half ham
  • 1 (20 ounce) can pineapple slices, in juice, drained and juice reserved
  • 20-30 whole cloves
  • 1 (10 ounce) jar maraschino cherries
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons grainy mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven as directed on the ham package. If the ham comes with a glaze packet, discard it. Follow the instructions on the package for baking the ham. Remove the ham from the oven 30 minutes before the end of the warming period.
  • Decoratively arrange the pineapple slices on top of the ham, securing the slices with cloves. Place a cherry in the center of each pineapple slice, securing with a clove or toothpick.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Add just enough of the reserved pineapple juice to make a thick glaze. Spoon the glaze over the ham and bake for the remaining 30 minutes. Remove the ham from the oven and transfer to a serving platter or cutting board.
  • Can be served warm or at room temperature.
