Virgin Sangria Recipe

I love a good sangria, especially on a warm evening with good food and great friends. Sangria makes an ordinary meal festive.

Sangria is typically made with wine, possibly some sort of liquor, fruit juice, and fruit. It’s lovely to look at and to drink. I got to thinking, why should people who don’t drink alcohol be deprived of something so lovely?

So here is my recipe for Virgin Sangria – just as lovely without the alcohol. Instead of wine I used white grape juice; since wine is made from grapes it seemed the perfect replacement. To cut the sweetness of the grape juice I added pomegranate juice – packed with antioxidants and nutrient dense, pomegranate juice is not just tasty but very good for you. I also added a jar (including the juice) of natural maraschino cherries. I used the darker Bordeaux variety but you can use any kind you like. The juice rounds out the flavor and the cherries add fruit and fun. I round the whole drink off with freshly squeezed orange juice and some slices of orange and lemon and some frozen grapes. Frozen grapes are a great way to keep this drink cold.

Next time you are looking for a festive, refreshing, non-alcoholic beverage, I hope you will give this a try.

Cheers!
