Why You’ll Love This Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry

A healthier homemade takeout favorite with tender beef, crisp broccoli, and tangy seasoned rice.

There’s a reason beef and broccoli is such a beloved combination. The tender beef, fresh broccoli, and savory sauce make a satisfying meal, but making it at home gives you control over the ingredients and flavors.

This version takes the classic a step further with seasoned rice made with Marukan Seasoned Gourmet Rice Vinegar. The slightly tangy rice provides a bright contrast to the rich beef and savory sauce, while honey or maple syrup adds just enough sweetness to balance the vinegar.

What Makes This Beef & Broccoli Different?

Instead of simply serving the stir-fry over plain rice, the rice gets its own flavorful upgrade.

Once the jasmine or white rice is cooked, it’s gently fluffed and folded with Marukan Seasoned Gourmet Rice Vinegar. This adds subtle tang and seasoning throughout the rice without overpowering the beef and broccoli.

The stir-fry sauce also gets plenty of flavor from Marukan Genuine Brewed Rice Vinegar, gluten-free tamari or coconut aminos, honey or maple syrup, and black pepper. Cornstarch helps the sauce thicken so it clings to every piece of beef and broccoli.

What You’ll Need

The combination of beef tallow, fresh aromatics, two types of rice vinegar, and a simple savory sauce creates layers of flavor without requiring a long ingredient list.

How to Make Beef & Broccoli Stir Fry

1. Make the seasoned rice

Cook the jasmine or white rice with water according to your rice cooker manufacturer’s instructions.

Once it’s finished, gently fluff the rice and fold in the Marukan Seasoned Rice Vinegar. Cover and keep warm while you prepare the stir-fry.

2. Mix the stir-fry sauce

While the rice cooks, whisk together the tamari or coconut aminos, Marukan Genuine Brewed Rice Vinegar, honey or maple syrup, cornstarch, beef broth or water, and black pepper.

Making the sauce before you start cooking means everything is ready to go once the skillet gets hot.

3. Quickly sear the beef

Season the thinly sliced beef with salt and pepper. Heat beef tallow in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Add the beef in a single layer and sear for just 1 to 2 minutes per side. The goal is nicely browned beef that isn’t overcooked. Transfer it to a plate while you cook the vegetables.

4. Stir-fry the broccoli

Add the remaining beef tallow to the skillet. Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 3 to 4 minutes, until it’s bright green and just tender.

If the broccoli needs a little help cooking through, add a splash of water to the pan. This creates a little steam without turning the broccoli soft and mushy.

5. Add garlic and ginger

Stir in the minced garlic and freshly grated ginger and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.

This quick cooking time keeps the aromatics vibrant while preventing the garlic from burning.

6. Finish the stir-fry

Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce. Toss everything together and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.

7. Serve

Spoon the beef and broccoli over the seasoned rice. Finish with sesame seeds and thinly sliced Fresno chili for crunch, color, and a touch of heat.

Tips for the Best Beef & Broccoli

Slice the beef against the grain

This is one of the most important steps for tender stir-fry beef. Look for the direction of the muscle fibers and slice across them rather than parallel to them.

Keep the beef thin

Thin slices cook quickly, which allows you to get a good sear without overcooking the center.

Don’t overcrowd the pan

For the best browning, arrange the beef in a single layer. If your skillet isn’t large enough, cook the beef in batches.

Don’t overcook the broccoli

You want broccoli that is bright green and just tender, with enough texture to stand up to the beef and sauce.

Have everything ready before you start

Stir-frying moves quickly. Prepare the sauce, slice the beef, chop the broccoli, and mince the aromatics before heating the pan.

How to Make This Recipe Soy-Free

The recipe offers an easy soy-free option: simply use coconut aminos in place of gluten-free tamari. The finished sauce will still have the savory-sweet flavor you want in a beef and broccoli stir-fry.

As always, check individual ingredient labels if you’re preparing this meal for someone with a serious food allergy.

Can I Use a Different Cut of Beef?

Yes. The recipe calls for either flank steak or sirloin, both of which work well when thinly sliced against the grain.

The key is less about the specific cut and more about slicing it thinly and cooking it quickly over relatively high heat.

What to Serve with Beef & Broccoli

Because this recipe already includes seasoned rice, it works beautifully as a complete meal. For a larger dinner, you can add a simple vegetable side such as:

  • Steamed edamame
  • Cucumber salad
  • Roasted carrots
  • Sautéed greens
  • Asian-inspired slaw

For an extra pop of flavor, serve additional rice vinegar, sesame seeds, or sliced Fresno chili at the table.
