Top gluten-free snacks for summer
It’s 2 p.m. somewhere … and that probably means snack time for some of you! If you’re in the mood for some snackin’ but you’re sick of mindlessly shoving potato chips in your mouth or reaching for a not-so-healthy cookie, here are some of my top gluten-free snacks for summer. These snacks are store-bought and can be packed easily for a day trip to the beach or anywhere else the season takes you!
Nuts: Nuts are nutritious and pack in fiber, healthy fats, omega-3s and more for a snack that you can munch on throughout the day.
Dried fruit: Bulk stores and health food stores carry all sorts of dried fruit that you wouldn’t have even thought of, like dried papaya, dried cantaloupe and more. I love to stock up on some of these for a sweet snack.
Dehydrated veggies: I recently discovered dried okra and it’s delicious! I found it in a local bulk store and I’m now a huge fan. I have to say they can be a little sharp when you bite into them, so be careful. Other dried veggies that are great for summer snacking are dried plantains, dried beets, and dried green beans.
ParmCrisps: ParmCrisps are made with only one or two ingredients – 100% Parmesan cheese plus seasonings (the Original variety is just cheese). This means you don’t have to worry about gluten, unknown additives and artificial ingredients. Plus, they are free of rBST growth hormone, low in calories, contain 0 grams of carbs, 9 grams of protein, and are rich in calcium, making them a delicious and guilt-free snack!
ParmCrisps Trios: Same great-tasting ParmCrisps, but they are paired with seeds, nuts and dried fruits for a fun and nutritious snack. ParmCrisps Trios are available in Original with apricots, cranberries, almonds and pumpkin seeds; Mediterranean with apricots, figs, almonds and pumpkin seeds; and Tropical with mangos, pineapples, almonds and pumpkin seeds.
Seeds: Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are small but mighty. They are tiny and easily transported plus they have all kinds of health benefits. They aren’t just for the birds!
Jerky: Jerky is everywhere these days and comes in nearly every form – beef, pork, turkey, bison, venison and even salmon jerky! This snack is full of protein and packs easily.
Next time you’re on your way out the door, reach for one (or all!) or these snacks. You can have an entire cheese and charcuterie platter with this stuff on-the-go … pretty fancy-schmancy, huh?!
