September 2020 Faves
This month, we have some delicious products to share with you. From a baking mix perfect for the fall baking season, to savory goodies like taquitos and authentic canned chilies, to a unique pasta, and more, we’ve got some great items in our September 2020 Faves list.
Gluten Free Prairie
We’re getting into baking season, so naturally we’ve put a baking mix on the list! Right now we’re loving Gluten Free Prairie’s Deep Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix. Simply telling you the name of the product should be enough to explain why we love it, right? Deep Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix. Enough said.
Ok, but let me say a bit more. This mix is made without preservatives, rice, xanthan gum, or fillers. The base is oat flour, made from Certified Gluten Free, purity protocol oats. Gluten Free Prairie was founded by Deb Wheaton, who has celiac herself. They produce gluten-free purity protocol oats and oat products, like pancake mix, brownie mix, granola, and more.

Hatch Chile
Many condiments seem like they wouldn’t contain gluten, but this isn’t always the case, unfortunately. Wheat and other gluten ingredients are often used as thickeners in condiments, so it’s important to read labels. Hatch Chile Co. is one of my favorite brands for Mexican food staples like tomatoes and green chilies, salsa, and enchilada sauce. Rich with flavor and free of gluten, these products are always on hand in my kitchen. Enchilada sauce often contains wheat or malt as a thickener, but Hatch Chile Co.’s is gluten-free! Savory, spicy dishes are excellent when the weather starts to cool down and you’re craving a bit of heat and comfort in your meals. Hatch Chile Co. has you covered on that!

Ziba Foods
One of my favorite things to do is make a charcuterie board with nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and cheeses, pour a glass of wine, and curl up on the couch and watch a good movie. I recommend this any time of year, but the fall season was practically made for that sort of thing, don’t you think? If you agree, allow me to introduce you to Ziba Foods. Ziba produces heirloom and wild-grown nuts, dried fruits, and seeds. They have sun-dried figs, raisins, walnuts, dried apricots, dried white mulberries, and the best pistachios and almonds (the Shakhurbai dry roasted and salted one) I’ve ever had. Ever. Ziba’s products come from Afghanistan, where they are sustainably harvested and grown with stable water supplies on multi-generational family farms and village co-ops. Everyone in the office loved these products and let’s just say the pistachios were practically fought over.
Julia’s Farms
Fall is baking season, back to school season, cuddle on the couch season, and COMFORT season! Comfort food is pasta, baked goods, cheesy casseroles, pizza … basically, carbs! But if you start indulging with comfort foods now, just think of how many calories you’ll have consumed by Thanksgiving, when the real calorie carnival begins. So why don’t we have our pasta and our skinny jeans, too, with Julia’s Farms spaghetti made of hearts of palm. Hearts of palm, if you don’t already know, is a vegetable harvested from the inner center of a palm tree. The palm trees at Julia’s Farms are sustainably grown, meaning the roots of the tree are continuously sprouting new branches. Julia’s Farms makes hearts of palm spaghetti. It’s available in jars and cans and is almost ready to eat as it comes. You simply drain it, add it to boiling water, boil for 2-3 minutes and drain. Then just serve it with your favorite sauce. It has a neutral taste but the texture works beautifully in traditional pasta recipes, with anything from tomato sauce to pesto to alfredo sauce and so much more!
