Celiac and Nutritional Deficiencies

Happy Celiac Awareness Month!

This is a special month for us here at Gluten Free & More as we dedicate ourselves, day in and day out, to raising awareness for celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and to helping people find simple and beautiful solutions for those who need to live a gluten free life.

As anyone who has dealt with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity for any period of time knows, there is more to keeping our bodies healthy than just avoiding gluten.

We need to heal our guts and make sure our bodies can properly absorb nutrients.

Unfortunately, those of us with celiac disease have problems absorbing nutrients from food even for those who have followed a gluten free diet for many years. We take vitamins and supplements hoping to counteract the malnutrition that can occur from a lack of absorption but even more unfortunately is the fact that so many vitamins and supplements never reach the cells of the body as they are degraded in the stomach and transported out of the body as waste before they ever reach our bloodstreams.

Enough bad news, now for the good!

Fortunately, there is a brand called LivOn Labs that produces what are known as Lypo-Spheric® supplements, which use liposome encapsulation technology to work differently from regular supplements. Here’s a little bit about how it works: Liposomes are double-layered bubbles that protect and deliver nutrients to cells throughout the body while bypassing the body’s usual delivery systems (which can be damaged from diseases like celiac, Crohn’s disease, and IBS). Liposomes can pass through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream for distribution to the cells. From there, they release nutrients. If you’ve had difficulty absorbing nutrients or you feel like your supplements simply are not working for you, this technology might be the answer.

People with celiac disease commonly have deficiencies in vitamin B, zinc, and magnesium. Even when following a gluten free diet. This is because of the degradation of the villi in the small intestine and can also be caused by a lack of food in the diet that is usually fortified with those nutrients. I’ve been deficient in B vitamins and have often tried to supplement them. LivOn Labs’ Lypo-Spheric® B Complex Plus is great because I know it’s being absorbed by my body, and I notice a difference in how I feel. I need energy to live my life and have noticed a big difference with my daily dose of their B Complex. It contains a blend of B vitamins, including B2, B6, and B12, as well as folate, zinc, and more. What it doesn’t contain is gluten, GMO ingredients, sugar, dairy, fillers, or artificial flavors.

Another supplement I take daily is their Magnesium L-Threonate that supports healthy brain and memory function, bone health, and a relaxed mood. If you have ever experienced what I call “gluten brain” you know how helpful this can be. Not to mention the fact that studies have shown that over 56 percent of people with celiac disease have low bone density. Personally, I am all for anything I can do to promote bone and brain health. I don’t want broken bones or a foggy brain.

I am also a big fan (and daily doser) of their Vitamin C because…well, I like being as resilient as possible. Plus, vitamin C supports skin firmness, and who doesn’t want that?

How you take these supplements is unique, but oh so simple. You can suck is straight from the packet or simply squeeze the packet into 1-3 ounces of a cold beverage (not hot, as this can damage the liposomes). Swallow it in one gulp, like a shot – trust me, this is the healthiest shot you have ever taken!

Of course, LivOn Labs has a variety of supplements to support a healthy body. And in celebration of Celiac Awareness Month, they have partnered with us on a very special offer for our readers so you can discover for yourself how effect these supplements are.  You can use the special deal we have with them to get a sample 2-pack of all 6 supplements for FREE with any purchase.
