Barenjager Whiskey Sour
A Sweet Twist on a Classic
The Whiskey Sour is one of the most beloved classic cocktails, known for its perfect balance of bold whiskey, tart citrus, and silky, smooth texture. But what happens when you swap traditional whiskey for Barenjager Honey Bourbon? You get a cocktail with a touch of honeyed sweetness, deep warmth, and an irresistibly smooth finish—a new take on a timeless favorite.
The History of the Whiskey Sour
The origins of the Whiskey Sour trace back to the 19th century, but its roots are even older. Sailors in the 1600s and 1700s needed a way to prevent scurvy, so they mixed their daily ration of spirits with lemon juice. Hey, I am all for preventing scurvy!
Over time, this evolved into a proper cocktail, with the first recorded recipe appearing in Jerry Thomas’ 1862 “Bartender’s Guide.” The addition of egg white, known as the Boston Sour, became popular later, adding a velvety texture that elevates the drink to a whole new level.
This Barenjager Whiskey Sour builds on that rich history while adding a smooth, honey-forward twist. Barenjager’s German honey liqueur roots combined with bourbon create a drink that’s both bold and balanced, with natural sweetness complementing the bright citrus. The egg white provides a luxurious foam, and a few dashes of bitters tie everything together with aromatic depth.
Served with an orange twist and a cocktail cherry, this is a sophisticated yet easy-to-make drink—perfect for whiskey lovers and cocktail enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re sipping it as a nod to seafaring history or enjoying a modern take on a classic, this cocktail proves that some things only get better with time.
Cheers!
