Gluten Free Frozen Desserts

Gluten-free, dairy-free frozen treats

I keep hearing this commercial for my local grocery store about summer being over. I think they just have a surplus of watermelon right now and need to push for that to sell, because according to the seasons, summer is NOT over. Summer ends in most places in the U.S. when fall begins (September 23rd) or, here in Florida, never. It never ends. It only has multiple shades of heat (scorching, blazing, really hot, hot, pretty hot). That said, we’re still in full-summer mode and that means I’ve been indulging in one of the quintessential summer treats: ICE CREAM. Or frozen custard, gelato, sorbet, Italian ice, ice cream bars, ice cream sandwiches, semifreddo … I mean, whatever way you mix it, I’m eating lots of gluten-free, dairy-free frozen treats.

Why dairy-free? Glad you asked! For one, I am currently on a plant-based diet to help get my neuropathy in check. (Follow me on Facebook to see updates on that.) And for two, I have a son who is mostly vegan who lives a street away from me, so if I can make sure he can eat the frozen treats at my house when he stops by, then it will not only be enjoyable for him, but will keep me from eating the entire supply of treats myself!

Here’s what’s in my freezer right now:

Revolution Ice Cream with Cone

Revolution Gelato

Available in Cardamom Spice, Darkest Chocolate, Full Throttle Vanilla, Majestic Mango, Orange Cream, and my fave French Press Coffee, this dairy-free, soy-free, Certified Organic gelato is creamy, flavorful, and as you can see by their flavors there is something for every palate. Revolution Gelato was created by a 4th generation ice cream family, with the mission to create the best dairy-free gelato in the country. They’ve won many awards for their gelato, so I’d say they’re meeting that goal! The creamy texture of Revolution Gelato comes from a combination of coconut cream, cashews, and pure cane sugar. Their ingredients are ethically sourced, kosher pareve, and vegan, so you can feel 100% good about eating and serving this frozen delight. What’s even better about this brand is that it comes in pints or single serve cups, so you can share or keep it all to yourself!

See what the Revolution is all about!

Sorbatto with Cones

Sorbatto

Sorbet meets gelato to form the one-of-a-kind Sorbatto frozen dessert. This delicious treat is free from dairy, nuts, and soy. It’s a plant-based dessert that is almost 90% made up of real, fresh fruit. It’s available in Blackberry, Blue Passion (passion fruit and blueberries), Dark Blue (chocolate and blueberries), Grape, Lemon, and Raspberry. Words can’t really describe the smoothness, the delicious flavor, and the satisfaction of bite after bite of something so refreshing! What’s sweeter than this treat is the story behind it. It’s a family-owned business that started in Yakima Valley in 1928. Generations of farming, cooking, canning, and enjoying frozen treats ultimately led to the creation of a frozen dessert made from the actual fruits of this family’s labor. Sorbatto was born and now all the grandkids of this family get to be the taste-testers.

Acai of America Frozen Dessert

Acai of America

This one is not your typical frozen dessert. It’s kept frozen but can be defrosted and turned into a smoothie bowl, or you can make it into a frozen treat. This is made with either 2 or 4 ingredients, depending on the variety. The pure, unsweetened variety is organic acai pulp and citric acid. The one with guarana is organic acai pulp, organic evaporated cane juice, organic guarana extract, and citric acid. The unsweetened variety works as a base for all sorts of acai recipes, with its berry flavor and chocolatey, earthy undertones. The guarana version is sweetened lightly and has guarana extract, both of which enhance the acai flavors. Mix this up with banana and other fruits and freeze it for a simple dessert to cool you off while maintaining good health. With only 100 calories per serving, this is a great way to satisfy your cravings for something sweet and chilled. Naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, and well, mostly all other allergen-free (unless you’re allergic to any ingredients listed). (Photo credit: Wild Yums)

Coconut Bliss Ice Cream Bars

Coconut Bliss

If you’d rather have your ice cream on a stick, Coconut Bliss’s ice cream bars are an excellent go-to. These are free from gluten and dairy and are Certified Organic and Non-GMO Verified.  Rich, creamy, and utterly delectable, these bars truly are bliss. Available in chocolate-covered bars: Sea Salt Caramel in Chocolate, Coconut Almond in Chocolate, Raspberry Acai in Chocolate, Madagascan Vanilla Bean in Chocolate, and in solid ice cream bars: Dark Chocolate, Infinite Coconut, Strawberry Love, and Cold Brew Latte. My favorite when I want a little crunch from the chocolate coating is the Sea Salt Caramel in Chocolate, and when I just want smooth and creamy it’s the Strawberry Love.

Find your bliss!
