GFCO Certification seal has a NEW look!

Attention gluten-free gals and guys … the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) Certification seal has a new look!

The GFCO, a certification organization from the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) offers an independent, third-party certification program for gluten-free products and works with manufacturers across the globe to ensure that products with the Certified Gluten Free seal contain 10ppm of gluten or less, which is twice as strict as what the FDA requires for products labelled gluten-free.

The GFCO seal has been a circle with the letters GF inside since 2005, but this year it has undergone a makeover. You can already see products in stores and online with this new label and all GFCO-certified products will be switching to the new label by 2022.

The GFCO Certification process entails:

  • Rigorous product testing and ingredient analysis.
  • Plant audits with auditors who visit product manufacturers to ensure they adhere to strict guidelines to maintain a gluten-free environment.
  • Proficiency testing to check that manufacturers understand how to accurately test gluten-free products.
  • Training and follow ups to stay on top of each manufacturer’s processes so they can continue to put the GFCO certification seal on their products.

While we’re on the topic of certification, we’d like to note that Carol’s Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour will soon be getting a new packaging look, which will include the new GFCO Certification label since we are in the process of getting certified! Stay tuned for more news on that in the near future.
