Fried Chicken Sandwiches & Gravy Fries

Summer is made for burgers, fried foods, and finger foods like French fries. Something about eating with your hands in the heat is just so very “summer in America” – am I right? This recipe for Fried Chicken Sandwiches & Gravy Fries combines all our classic American faves into one meal.

This recipe is made with a Good It’s Gluten Free Southern Fry’d Meal Kit, which includes batter, seasoned coating, and gravy. All you have to do is add the chicken. You could stop there and have fried chicken with gravy, but this recipe takes it another step further. To make this into a chicken sandwich you’ll need gluten-free hamburger buns and then fries to serve with the gravy. I also made a sauce to go on the sandwiches, using mayo and sriracha, and of course threw in some sandwich pickles because a sandwich isn’t complete without pickles!

You’ll love this recipe. It’s easy, flavorful, and gives you all those classic American takeout vibes in a healthier, more ingredient-controlled recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 Good It’s Gluten Free Southern Fry’d Meal Kit
  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 6-8 ounces each)
  • Vegetable oil
  • ½ cup mayonnaise or vegan mayonnaise
  • 2-3 teaspoons sriracha sauce
  • 4 gluten-free hamburger buns , toasted
  • Dill pickle slices
  • 1 (32 ounce) bag gluten-free frozen French fries, cooked per the package instructions
  • Chicken salt or garlic salt

Instructions

  • Combine the batter mix from the kit with 10 tablespoons of water. Whisk until smooth. Place the seasoned coating from the kit on a plate or in a shallow bowl.
  • Pound the chicken breasts lightly to even out. Cut each breast in half crosswise so that you have 4 equal-sized portions. Coat the chicken in batter then dredge in the seasoned coating.
  • Add enough oil in a large skillet to come up ¼ inch. Heat over medium-high heat until it begins to shimmer. Fry for 4-6 minutes per side or until golden brown and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Drain on paper towels.
  • Combine the mayonnaise with sriracha sauce and mix well. Heat the gravy from the meal kit in a small saucepan until hot.
  • Spread the spicy mayonnaise on both sides of the buns, place some pickles on the bottom bun, top with the chicken, then the top bun.
  • Sprinkle the cooked fries with chicken or garlic salt. Pour on the hot gravy and serve with the sandwiches.
  • The chicken can also be cooked in an air fryer; spray with oil and place in an air fryer preheated to 400°F. Cook for 12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
