Ingredients
- 1 dozen fresh bratwurst sausages about 3 pounds
- 2 red onions peeled and cut into wedges
- 1 medium green bell pepper seeded and thinly sliced
- 1 medium red bell pepper seeded and thinly sliced
- 2 12-ounce bottles gluten-free beer
- 2 cups water
- 12 gluten-free hoagie rolls or large hot dog buns toasted, for serving
Suggested toppings: ketchup, brown mustard, sauerkraut, pickle relish
Instructions
- Use a 6-quart slow cooker. Put the sausages into the insert and add the onions and bell peppers. Pour in the beer and water. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Remove the brats from the slow cooker and grill lightly on an outdoor barbecue or indoor grill pan.
- Scoop the onions and peppers out of the pot, and place into a large skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until they have begun to sweat and caramelize. Serve the brats on the toasted rolls, topped with the onions, peppers, and desired condiments.
