Gluten Free Sweet & Spicy Honey Lacquered Ribs
One thing my family loves is ribs! We make them all sorts of ways and haven’t found a rib recipe yet we didn’t like.
My son, the expert barbecue dude, loves to do his ribs either on the smoker or grill. I take the easy way out and use my oven. A few hours in the oven, a good sauce, a few minutes under the broiler and voila! Fall off the bone, lick your fingers, fabulous ribs!
In the case of these Gluten Free Sweet & Spicy Honey Lacquered Ribs, the good sauce is actually a great sauce. It is sweet, spicy, tangy – everything you want in a rib sauce. I use gluten free tamari for salty, Wholesome organic honey for sweet, sriracha for spicy, and mustard, ginger, and lime for tangy. The sauce is positively addictive. And by applying sauce and putting the ribs under the broiler twice, you get this gorgeous lacquered look that I love.
Gluten Free Sweet & Spicy Honey Lacquered Ribs Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 slabs approximately 3 pounds baby back ribs
- Kosher or fine sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup Wholesome! organic honey
- ¼ cup gluten free tamari or soy sauce
- ¼ cup Dijon mustard
- 5 tablespoons sriracha sauce use more or less depending on heat tolerance
- 2 teaspoons dry ginger
- Juice of 2 limes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Flip the ribs bone side up and insert a dinner knife just under the white membrane that covers the meat and bones. Gently peel the membrane off. (See step by step example in this post.) Season the ribs on all sides generously with salt and pepper.
- Wrap each rack of ribs with heavy duty foil. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 2 ½ – 3 hours or until the meat is tender.
- While the ribs are cooking, make the sauce.
- In a saucepan, combine the honey, tamari, mustard, sriracha, ginger, and lime juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer until the mixture is reduced by half, about 10 minutes.
- When the ribs have finished baking, remove from the oven, place the top rack about 8 inches from the broiler, and preheat the broiler to high.
- Line 1-2 baking sheets with foil. Unwrap the ribs and place the ribs bone side down on the baking sheets. Brush with the sauce and broil 3 minutes. Brush with more sauce and broil another 2-3 minutes.
- Serve the ribs with any extra sauce on the side
