Recommends: Gluten Free Prairie
Oats are naturally gluten free, but it’s very important to know that they can oftentimes be cross contaminated in the fields, harvested with shared equipment, or processed in a facility that also processes gluten ingredients. This means that if you’re eating oats and feel ill, it might be due to cross contamination. It’s super important to make sure you buy oats that specifically say “gluten-free” on the package. If they come from a company like Gluten Free Prairie that states “Purity Protocol Oats” then that’s even better!
Gluten Free Prairie offers gluten-free oat flour, oats, and oat groats – all of which are made with purity protocol oats. What that means is they are grown in clean fields (fields that haven’t had wheat, rye, or barley grown on them in at least 4 years), they use designated equipment to harvest the oats, and they are processed in a facility that only works with those oats. Their oats test at about 3 parts per million (ppm) of gluten (the FDA limit is 20ppm). That’s a big deal! It means that individuals who are sensitive to oats may be able to tolerate these and it ensures safety for all celiacs.
Gluten Free Prairie also offers a gluten-free flour, brownie mix, granola, pancake mix, pizza crust mix, sugar cookie mix, and pre-made oatmeal cookies. I haven’t tried all their products but the ones I have tried so far are delicious, have great texture, bake/mix well and can fool any gluten-free naysayer!
Added bonus: they’re a family-owned and family-run company, which I’m a big fan of!
