If you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, does gluten-free makeup really matter? That’s a common question and my answer is this: gluten is generally too large of a molecule to get into your pores, however, if you have blemishes, a scrape, etc. then yes, gluten can seep in. And more important, if something is on your face, it can make its way into your mouth or your eyes. Then of course you have mascara and lipstick – both are going to end up getting inside your body. So why be sorry when you can be safe with gluten-free makeup? There are many brands that are now aware of gluten and are making sure to label their makeup gluten-free if they happen to be gluten-free, and then you have brands that are developed completely with the idea of being gluten-free from the start.

One such company is Dr. Liia cosmetics, formerly known as Epilynx. Developed by Dr. Liia Ramachandra, PharmD, PhD, after her struggle with gluten sensitivity, Dr. Liia cosmetics are not just gluten-free but also free from casein, nut oils, parabens, phthalates, and are cruelty free. They make skin care like face creams and serums, as well as makeup. I tested their eye liner and lipstick and I like both of them a lot! For one, the eye liner is liquid and dries quickly, and the liner pen is pointed and works like a fine-tip Sharpie for precise lining. The lipstick dries quickly and stays on for a while – through my multiple cups of coffee! The colors are vibrant and bold, which I might not wear every day but certainly appreciate for when I’m going out.

The skin care is also fantastic and offers several options for day and night.

If you want a line of products that is trustworthy and high-quality, check out Dr. Liia!
