Huge news for gluten-free bread
Bread. You can live without it, but do we really want to do that? Bread is a staple in many peoples’ homes and it’s often one of the foods people feel they will be deprived of when going gluten-free. And while gluten-free bread has now become much more attainable than it was 20 years ago when I went gluten-free, there is still room for improvement. Many commercially available gluten-free breads work well for toast, pressed sandwiches, French toast, cubed bread, and croutons. But one thing that they sometimes lack is size and soft texture, which is why what I’m about to tell you is huge news for gluten-free bread.
Canyon Bakehouse, a certified gluten-free bread company, now makes BIG SLICE loaves! No longer do you have to wish that you could have a full-size, hold-with-two-hands sandwich instead of making 1½ sandwiches with smaller gluten-free bread slices. With Canyon Bakehouse Heritage Style bread, your wish has come true. Available in Whole Grain or Honey White, these loaves are truly different from most other gluten-free breads. Not only are they larger and softer, but they are non-GMO and free of dairy, soy, and nuts.
This new direction for bread may (hopefully) make other gluten-free bread companies step up their game and offer larger slices. However, because of the denseness and cost of many gluten-free ingredients, that might take some time. In the meantime, I’m going to go make a sandwich. You should, too!
(By the way, if you need sandwich ideas, their website has some of the most amazing looking sandwiches I’ve seen!)
Wish it didn’t have egg whites in it! I’m highly allergic to dairy and soy; also allergic to gluten and egg whites. They don’t make a bread that I can eat. Gave up years ago!
Hi Mary,
I’m sorry this bread isn’t an option for you. I did a quick search online and found that Katz Gluten Free has an Egg Free Bread that’s also free of dairy and soy. If you haven’t already tried it, here’s a link to check it out.
xo,
Carol
